Environmental and Social Manager
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop a screening tool or criteria that is consistent with IFC PS requirements to identify HSES related risks of new projects (including associated facilities). As a minimum, the tool should include a high-level analysis/ consideration of cultural heritage, biodiversity, physical climate risks, human rights and GBVH screening, community impacts/ resettlement, health and safety, land use etc. The output of the screening shall be used to inform site selection and avoid siting the project in areas of high biodiversity
value. - Continue with the development of an HSES Risk and Legal Register at Group level that includes all countries of operation (licenses, permits and authorisations)
- Engage an external consultant to support the Company in developing their HSES Strategy and ESMS.
Promote an existing HSE resource to Group HSES Manager to work with the external consultant in developing the ESMS that is in line with IFC Performance Standards. - Hire a suitably qualified Corporate HSES Manager (who also has oversight of ESG and IFC PS aspects) who will take the responsibility for the implementation of the ESMS and the management of HSES risks and impacts within the organisation.
- Establish an HSES/ESG committee at Group Level
- At Group and project level, develop and maintain a detailed Corporate HR Manual with policies to ensure that company operations (corporate and subsidiaries) are in line with the IFC PS 2 on Labour and Working Conditions and ILO Fundamental Conventions. The HR Policy should cover recruitment, conditions of employment, working conditions, OHS, job protection and retrenchment, sub-contractors, workers employees via third parties, Employment terms procedures, policies on freedom of association and workers’ rights to organize, occupational health and safety, gender-based violence and workplace harassment, grievance management, non-discrimination and equal opportunity, code of conduct, professional development, internal grievance management mechanism, child and forced labour, employee facilities and welfare, security, training and capacity building and HR roles and responsibilities.
- HR policies and associated procedures to be also developed for regions in compliance with country specific labour legislative requirements.
- At project level, develop and maintain incident logs for each site across all countries of operation
- At Group and project level, prepare a Transport/ Road Safety Management Procedure that includes responsibilities for preparing and approving vehicle journey plans, level of oversight by the Company on vehicles and drivers; responsibilities for accident/incident investigations and review by the Company; consequences for non-compliance by contractors; and periodic performance audits by the Company to make it effective for addressing occupational and community health and safety risks related to road transport.
